People’s Choice Award Winner Announced!

The votes have been tallied, and the people have spoken!  As a result of receiving the most votes in the WooHoo Rugby Scholarship, Paea Palaa has been confirmed as the inaugural winner of the WooHoo People's Choice Award, which is a wider part of the WooHoo Rugby Scholarship.

This award saw the Oamaru student win $1,000 for himself and $2,000 for his school, St Kevin's College, where the prizes were presented in the form of large cheques during the school assembly.

Principal Paul Olsen claims that "It's a win both on and off the field", capping off a great year of rugby by his standards.

Palaa, who set a new school record this year with 19 tries playing in the front row, was thrilled to win and plans on sharing the money with his family.

WooHoo NZ Tax Refunds and The Crusaders have had a partnership for quite some time; however the WooHoo Rugby Scholarship was newly introduced in 2015. This was started with the aim of assisting in the development of emerging young elite rugby talent.

Chris Cameron, Chief Marketing Officer of WooHoo NZ Tax Refunds, said the company is proud to be giving young Kiwis a head start in their sporting careers.

"We're stoked for Paea and got a kick out of watching the online votes come in for him and St Kevin's. The People's Choice was all about communities supporting each other and that's what happened in Oamaru."
